What is Philanthropy New York?
Philanthropy New York is a nonprofit membership organization of philanthropic foundations and the philanthropic units of corporations in the New York City metropolitan area. We provide our 280+ member foundations with more than one hundred professional education programs annually and numerous professional networks and collaborative programs.
Does Philanthropy New York make grants?
No, we do not make grants. We encourage grantseekers to explore the resources of the Foundation Center, our neighbor at 79 Fifth Avenue:

Where can I find a list of Philanthropy New York members?
Use our online member directory to find a complete list of our members or search by organization name and type. Philanthropy New York members may log in to access additional search criteria and to find individual members.
What can Philanthropy New York do for me as a grantmaker?
Philanthropy New York can assist you in both your program activities and organizational operations, at every stage of the life of your organization. Our staff, our members, and outside experts are at your disposal through Philanthropy New York programs, peer networks, and, in the case of our staff, on demand.
What can Philanthropy New York do for me as a grantseeker?
Philanthropy New York does not make grants. However, we offer opportunities for grantseekers to learn about the field of philanthropy. Look for announcements of Dialogue with Donors and Meet the Grantmakers—our two program series for grantseekers—on the Philanthropy New York Calendar of Events.
Philanthropy New York sponsors the New York/New Jersey Common Application and Common Report Forms, both of which are designed to streamline the grant application and grant reporting processes for nonprofit organizations.
What can Philanthropy New York do for me as a jobseeker?
Our online Jobs Board lists a broad range of professional opportunities in philanthropy in the New York City metropolitan area.
We also offer a free career workshop, Grantmaking as a Career, twice a year for those seeking to enter the field of professional philanthropy. These sessions are informational only, and will NOT include specific job leads, referrals, individual interviews with grantmakers, or contacts within the field. Look for an announcement on the Philanthropy New York Calendar of Events.
Who may join Philanthropy New York?
In general, Philanthropy New York membership is open to those organizations with a primary mission of making charitable grants or contracts, including: independent foundations; family foundations; the philanthropic units and foundations of corporations; public foundations; community foundations and federated funds; faith-based foundations; operating foundations; and philanthropic advisors. We also welcome individual philanthropists to join us. Please see our Become a Member section to review our membership criteria for each category and our current dues schedule.
Except for organizations that meet our requirements for public foundations, Philanthropy New York membership is not open to fundraising or grantseeking organizations.
How do I join Philanthropy New York?
