Charles H. Hamilton serves as Philanthropy New York’s 2009 Senior Fellow. Mr. Hamilton assists in the implementation of Philanthropy New York’s strategic goals, and serve as an ambassador for Philanthropy New York.

Mr. Hamilton was the Executive Director and Secretary of The Clark Foundation from 1999 to March 2009. Prior to that, he was Executive Director of the J. M. Kaplan Fund, and years earlier, he founded and ran a book publishing company, taught in the New York City public school system, and worked for a community center in Brooklyn. Mr. Hamilton serves on the board of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Civitella Ranieri Foundation. He has served on the board of the Council on Foundations and was Chair of their Committee on Family Foundations. Mr. Hamilton has also served on the board of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) and the New College Foundation. Mr. Hamilton earned his B.A. from New College, and has an M.B.A. from New York University. From 1994 through 1996, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Program on Non-Profit Organizations at Yale University. Mr. Hamilton has written extensively and most recently edited Living the Legacy: The Values of a Family’s Philanthropy Across Generations, published by the National Center for Family Philanthropy.
