The New Rapid Deployment: Resources for Returning Veterans

Thousands of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are returning home to New York City. Though few funders consider veterans’ issues to be a direct part of their mission, many of our members still want to support these returning New Yorkers.  We invite you to learn more by joining us for a daylong conference highlighting some of the creative and successful programs supporting veterans across myriad program areas. Hear from peers across the country who are helping veterans reintegrate into their lives and hometowns, and find out about the most urgent priorities and needs from our panelists (as well as the largest gaps in government programs). We hope you will join us.

Interested members are invited to join us on December 3rd for a screening of The Invisible War at Philanthropy New York. The film will be followed by a panel discussion.

From Oscar®- and Emmy®-nominated filmmaker Kirby Dick (This Film Is Not Yet Rated; Twist of Faith) comes The Invisible War, a groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of America's most shameful and best-kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within the U.S. military. Premiering at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the esteemed Audience Award, the film paints a startling picture of the extent of the problem. The Department of Defense estimates there were a staggering 19,000 violent sex crimes in the military in 2010. The Invisible War exposes the epidemic, breaking open one of the most under-reported stories of our generation to the nation and the world.
